Every August, I consciously slow down and recharge, practicing what I preach about the importance of cycling in and out of periods of intensity and then rest and downtime. If August is a quieter month for you too, whether you’re working or on holiday, here are some resources to help you make the most of this period of calm.
Reset Your Nervous System
First and foremost, use this time consciously to come out of a stressed nervous system state – slow everything down, and reduce rushing, striving, and pressure as much as you can. Reconnect with nature and spend plenty of time outdoors during this period – nature’s calming effects will help you destress and recharge your system so that you can enter September with renewed energy and motivation.

Kick-off New Habits
It’s an excellent time to start a new habit. Whether that’s doing more exercise, healthier eating, or better sleep routines, begin the new habit now while you have the time and headspace. By the time things pick up in September, you’ll hopefully have mastered the new habit(s), making them easier to maintain when life gets hectic again.

Catch Up on Annoying Tasks
Take advantage of this opportunity to catch up on those pesky, small and non-urgent tasks that linger on your to-do list. Whether they’re personal life admin, household chores, or work-related tasks, create a separate list and plan when you’re going to tackle them. Consider blocking out specific times to address them in batches.
Many people underestimate how much these unfinished tasks can weigh on your mind and cause unnecessary pressure. Clearing them now will help you go into September feeling much lighter and more positive!
