I often think back to the time when Sunday was more of a day of rest for people here in the UK because most shops and businesses were closed.
It almost seems a little strange now to think of nothing being open aside from a few exceptions like pubs, restaurants and motorway service stations.
I miss those Sundays in many ways because everything felt calmer and more peaceful for a day.
People also typically made more of an effort to see friends and family on a Sunday or to spend time in nature, kick back and watch something fun on tv, listen to music, read a book, or simply rest and pretty much do nothing aside from potter around the house or garden.
In many ways, we’re currently experiencing an enforced time of rest what with the current government guidelines to stay indoors, aside from exercising and going to the shops for food.
And the atmosphere where I live here in London is so much more peaceful and calm because of this.
But despite being mostly house-bound, we can of course find things to keep ourselves busy inside the home or even inside our mind!
…Especially if we suffer from a little ‘addiction to busyness’!
So today I’d like to suggest that you reinstate Sunday as a true day of rest.
Rest plays such an important role in our overall health and wellbeing and in today’s modern-day, maxed-out world we’re all typically far too busy, so let’s use this time of enforced downtime to our advantage.
