January 10th, 2025 – The keys to success in pursuing new goals
Before we commit to new goals, there’s one crucial step that often gets overlooked: self-awareness. Success doesn’t just happen because we declare a goal; it’s rooted in understanding where we currently are and why we want to change. Without this self-awareness, we risk setting ourselves up for frustration, burnout, or failure. In my second blog post, I talked about how resistance can really hold us back when we’re trying to build new goals and habits. Trust me, I’ve been there – especially when I was just starting my business. One resource that truly helped me through those early struggles was The War of Art by Steven Pressfield.
In the book, Pressfield shares many personal stories and examples of resistance from his own journey as a struggling writer. He describes resistance as this internal force that stops us from reaching our full potential, showing up as procrastination, self-doubt, or fear. What I love about Pressfield’s approach is that he emphasises how important it is to recognise resistance for what it is – and then fight back to stay on track with our goals.
The War of Art is invaluable when you’re facing resistance. You can flip to any page, and the short story or anecdote will help shift your perspective and make you feel like you’re not alone in the struggle.
