Every August, I consciously slow down and recharge – practising what I preach about intentionally cycling in and out of stress, which means I make sure periods of intensity are followed by rest and recovery.

This year looks slightly different. I won’t be taking a full break, as I’m using August to work behind the scenes on something exciting: my podcast, launching in September! But I am being more intentional with my time by slowing my pace of work and life, resting when I can, and using this quieter month to reset.

If August is a slower time for you too, whether you’re working or off on holiday, here are some resources that might help you use the calm more consciously.

Reset Your Nervous System

Use this time intentionally to ease out of a stressed state – reduce rushing, pressure, and striving where you can. Reconnect with nature, get outside, and let yourself unwind. The more you allow your nervous system to settle, the more refreshed and energised you’ll feel moving into September.

Kick Off New Habits

August is an ideal time to begin small wellbeing shifts. Whether it’s getting back into exercise, improving sleep, or reducing sugar or caffeine – now is a great time to build consistency while things feel calmer.

Even a short power-hour with a focused list of those small but non-urgent things can lift the low-level pressure many of us carry without realising.

If You’re Travelling…

If you’ve got a trip coming up (and find travel a bit stressful), last summer’s holiday series might help:

Wishing you a calm and restorative August, whether you’re switching off fully or simply making the most of the slower pace.

This will be my only article this month, as I’m taking a bit of my own advice and focusing on rest, reflection, and getting ready for what’s next.

I’ll be back in early September with fresh content…  and the launch of my brand new podcast. Keep an eye out later this month for a sneak peek!
